The Simpsons is an animated television series created by Matt Groening for the Fox Broadcasting Company. It originated as a series of shorts on The Tracey Ullman Show in 1987 before being developed into a standalone half-hour prime-time series for Fox. The series premiered in 1989 and became the longest-running American animated series in television history.
